Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise has watched The Odyssey, taking to social media to talk about Christopher Nolan’s latest epic fantasy action film. Cruise previously watched and praised Nolan’s previous film, Tenet, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ahead of its release, The Odyssey’s reviews have set a new record for Nolan’s filmography.
What did Tom Cruise say about The Odyssey?
Known for championing big blockbusters, it won’t be surprising to learn that Cruise loved Nolan’s new film. The actor posted a photo of himself on social media holding a ticket outside an IMAX 70MM banner of The Odyssey, writing, “Wow! To Chris, Emma, and ALL of your brilliant cast and crew. Thank you for an amazing night in a movie theater. I can’t wait to see it again!”
Cruise has long been a supporter of the shared cinematic experience, advocating for filmgoers to watch movies on the big screen. The actor famously delayed Top Gun: Maverick from being acquired by streaming services and released on them during the pandemic, which eventually led to the film grossing over $1.5 billion at the box office. His previous film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, grossed $598 million worldwide. He will be next seen in a completely new look in director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s disaster-comedy Digger.
The Odyssey uses new IMAX technology to retell Homer’s epic, with Nolan advocating for cinephiles to watch it in an IMAX theater. The film’s critics have also noted some surprising similarities between it and Oppenheimer.
Further, News’s Jonathan Sim also praised The Odyssey in their review, stating it was an “extraordinary achievement that deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible.” It holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 229 reviews at the time of writing.
