After completing deals for Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, Manchester United are preparing to finalise their midfield overhaul with a third addition to the squad.
For this signing, the Red Devils are focusing on a defensive midfielder who can operate effectively at the base of midfield, offering solid protection to the back four.
Aurelien Tchouameni was one of the primary targets identified by United, but securing his transfer from Real Madrid appears difficult. The Spanish club have just extended his contract, and the Frenchman has agreed to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.
At the same time, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Manu Koné continue to be monitored by United. However, both players showcased their talent on the global stage at the World Cup, drawing interest from several elite clubs, which complicates any potential move.
Just as the arrivals of Tielemans and Santos came as pleasant surprises, supporters will be eager to see if the club can pull off another unexpected signing.
According to reports from Football Transfers, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson has emerged as a strong candidate as United intensify their search for a new number six.
Negotiations have reportedly already begun. The report states:
“Manchester United and Newcastle have both held talks with representatives of Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson as the race for the gifted young midfielder picks up pace.”
It continues: “Initial contact has been made by both Premier League clubs as they assess a potential move for the 22-year-old Sweden international, who is open to leaving the Bundesliga side.”
Larsson, who is often compared to Manchester City star Rodri, could be the surprise element that completes United’s revamped midfield setup.
Observers familiar with the Swedish midfielder describe him as a strong ball-winner with excellent technical skills, capable of breaking lines and delivering incisive passes from deep positions.
Standing at 6’1″, Larsson combines physical strength with the pace and energy required to thrive in the Premier League.
While United will face competition from Newcastle United, the lure of Champions League football and the promise of a key role under INEOS could help persuade the player to choose Old Trafford over St James’ Park.
Reports suggest that Eintracht Frankfurt are open to selling their midfield powerhouse for a fee in the region of £42 million. For Manchester United, this could represent the final piece in their meticulously planned midfield rebuild.
