Actress Sana Saeed , best known for her performances in ' Kuch Kuch Hota Hai ' and ' Student of the Year ', has opened up about one of the most difficult phases of her life. The actor revealed that she struggled with bulimia , an eating disorder, for years before understanding what she was going through. Through a deeply personal video and heartfelt note on social media, Sana shared how a lack of awareness around eating disorders delayed her diagnosis and recovery.
Sana Saeed opens up on battling BulimiaIn her social media post, Sana described growing up without any real understanding of eating disorders, saying that because nobody around her ever spoke about it, she had no framework to recognise what she was living through — so she carried it "silently and alone" for a long time.
She recalled the specific fear that shaped her daily life as a child, the anxiety of hiding food, of being caught, of being seen as "overeating." It took reading about the condition, she said, for things to finally click into place, even though admitting the truth to herself, that what she had was bulimia, took far longer to accept.
In the emotional video, Sana recalled how anxiety around food shaped her childhood and left her feeling isolated, “I cannot constantly want to hide and eat or be worried that he'll enter my room and think that I'm overeating. I remember when I started reading the book, I was like… because you're so scared, you finally know what's the problem. And you don't want to face it. You've lived with it for so many years, you think something is absolutely wrong with you.”
She admitted that accepting the diagnosis was one of the hardest parts of her journey, “I remember telling myself, ‘Okay, it's some sort of an eating disorder. But it's not this,’ because it was so difficult for me to admit to myself that I had bulimia. I never heard about it growing up. I wish I'd heard about it, so I would have gone straight to the problem.”
'You are not alone': Sana Saeed on why she chose to share her storySana explained that discovering the word "bulimia" for the first time gave her a way to finally understand what had been happening to her, though the shame of admitting it, even privately, took years to work through. She said she decided to share her story because someone else out there may be going through something they don't yet have a name for, and she wanted them to know it does have a name, and that they're "not alone."
She closed her note on a hopeful note, sharing that she considers herself fully recovered and has never felt more at home in her own body. She encouraged anyone struggling to reach out to someone they trust or seek qualified eating disorder support in their region.
Alongside the video, Sana shared a heartfelt note explaining how the absence of conversations around eating disorders left her suffering in silence, “I didn't know I had an eating disorder for years. Not because I wasn't suffering, but because I had never heard the words. Growing up nobody talked about it. There was no language for what I was going through so I carried it silently and alone for a long time.”
She said discovering information about bulimia helped her finally understand her condition, “When I finally read about bulimia I understood for the first time what was happening to me. And even then the shame of admitting it, even just to myself, took years to move through.”
Sana said she chose to speak publicly in the hope of helping others who may be facing similar struggles, “I'm sharing this because somewhere out there someone is carrying something they don't even have a name for yet. And I want them to know, it has a name. You are not alone. And there is a way through.”
The actor also shared an uplifting update about her recovery while encouraging people to seek professional support, “I am fully recovered and I have never felt more at home in my body or my life. If you are struggling, please reach out to someone you trust or look for eating disorder support in your region. You deserve real help from someone qualified to give it.”
On the personal front, Sana got engaged to entrepreneur Csaba Wagner in a December 2023 proposal in Paris, and the two married in an intimate ceremony in Goa in January 2025. She is currently based in the US.
