When in 2023 ‘OMG 2‘ was about to release, it faced a huge backlash from the CBFC. The film was criticized for mixing religious themes and sex education. There was also talk of banning the film. After some changes, OMG 2 received an ‘A’ certificate and was released. Many dialogues and words were changed. Now, Paresh Rawal has commented about that film. The actor said that OMG 2 was his idea, but Akshay Kumar took the script from him and didn’t even give him credit.

Paresh Rawal also claimed that if the makers had stuck to their original story, much of the controversy could have been avoided. The actor claims that his story was based on a father-son relationship and did not involve any divine intervention. He also mentioned that after Akshay Kumar was part of the project, there were many major changes in the script and that is why he decided to withdraw from the film.

In an interview given to Vicky Lalwani, Paresh Rawal claimed that he had created the original story of the film that became ‘OMG 2’. He shared the idea with director Amit Rai and developed the script together with him. However, after Akshay Kumar joined the project, the story took a different turn. According to Paresh Rawal, God had no role in the story. He said, “I approached ‘Road to Sangam’ director Amit Rai and asked if he was thinking of making another film. I respect him a lot. I told him I have an idea. Let’s sit down and write it together. I told him that even though I am not a writer, I can give ideas and help identify where we are going wrong, as I understand the screenplay to some extent.”

Paresh Rawal further elaborated, “The story was about a boy whose video goes viral, making his life difficult. His father was a tourist guide at the Khajuraho temple. Amit advised him to become a part-time priest at the Mahakal temple. We scripted together and included expert Dr. Prakash Kothari. We had many meetings, as our aim was to make the film educational and entertaining, not vulgar. We were fully involved in the process.”

Speaking further, Paresh Rawal said that when I spoke with Akshay, he requested me to do this film. But I told him no. This movie is not what I thought it would be. God had no role in this story. He tried to convince me, but I was involved in the process of this screenplay from the beginning. So I knew exactly how the story should be. So I walked out of this film. After all, the father was played by Pankad Tripathi in the film, while Akshay Kumar appeared on screen as Shiva’s emissary.
