It is a matter of relief for crores of consumers using LPG across the country that today on July 17, 2026, there is no change in the prices of domestic and commercial gas cylinders. From Delhi to Mumbai, gas cylinder prices currently remain stable. But is this relief going to last long? The increasing tension between America and Iran has once again raised concerns about the oil and gas supply chain.
Prices are stable, but supply is in danger
At present, in the national capital Delhi, domestic gas cylinder is available for Rs 942 and 19 kg commercial cylinder is available for Rs 2930. In Noida and Ghaziabad, domestic cylinder costs Rs 939.50. The prices in other cities including Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai are the same as they were in the past days. However, it is a matter of concern that the international supply of crude oil and gas may be affected. Experts say that India sources about 90 percent of its LPG requirements through the ‘Strait of Hormuz’. Due to the recent military tension, supplies through this important route are under threat.
Will cylinders become expensive again?
Recall that between March and May 2026, when tensions between America and Iran increased, there was a severe shortage of gas in India. Then there were long queues outside the agencies and people were not able to get the cylinders on time. According to government data, during that time, oil companies were facing huge losses of Rs 500 to Rs 700 on every cylinder. In such a situation, experts believe that if the prices of crude oil remain high in the international market for a long time, then the government will have only two options – either to increase the subsidy or to increase the prices of cylinders, putting the burden of inflation on the general public.
Today’s prices in different cities (in rupees)
- Delhi: Domestic 942 / Commercial 2930
- Mumbai: Domestic 941.50 / Commercial 2885.50
- Kolkata: Domestic 968 / Commercial 3082
- Chennai: Domestic 957.50 / Commercial 3106
- Chandigarh: Domestic 951.50 / Commercial 2954.50
- Hyderabad: Domestic 934 / Commercial 2052.50
At present, the government and petroleum companies are closely monitoring the global situation. Although the prices are stable now, there is a possibility that the kitchen budget may be affected in the future due to global tensions.
