Three persons, including two school children, died when a school van they were travelling in was hit by a train in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Friday morning, an official said. The accident took place around 7 am in the Berhampore area of Murshidabad at a level-crossing gate near Karna Subarna railway station. Where a school van with students in it was hit by a passenger train at the Karnasubarna railway crossing. Visuals from the spot showed the school van badly damaged and lying on the railway tracks. The injured students were taken to Murshidabad Medical College Hospital for treatment.
What Caused the Murshidabad Train Accident?
The school van was taking children to school when it tried to cross the railway tracks near Karna Subarna station around 48 km from Katwa.
During that time, a local passenger train crashed into the vehicle, according to an Eastern Railway official.
The accident happened at the Gobindapur railway crossing which also injured several. A cyclist was also hit in the collision. Several students suffered serious injuries and were taken to Berhampore Hospital for further treatment.
Railway Probe Underway After Fatal School Van Crash
Railway officials said the level crossing gate was reportedly open when the accident happened. A 10 member team has been sent to investigate the exact cause of the train crash in West Bengal, though details are still being gathered.
The accident also disrupted several train services on the Azimganj-Katwa section of Eastern Railway’s Howrah division.
The collision near Karna Subarna station killed three people including two school children.
The railway police and local police have started an investigation into the accident.
