Karishma Tanna is nine months pregnant and gearing up to step into a new chapter of her life — one she admits she never actively planned for. In a frank chat with Bombay Times, the actress opens up about her pregnancy, why she never believed in the biological clock, and her husband Varun Bangera’s unwavering support.
‘I wanted to enjoy my pregnancy, not ponder on how life will change for me’
At the onset of the conversation, ask the Scoop actress how life has been lately, and she says, “I want to enjoy my pregnancy. I don’t want to ponder on how I am going to be a mother or how everything else in my life will be on hold.”

Karishma says, “Life will go on because I’m 42 and I do not want to miss out on any opportunities. Being a mother is also a beautiful part of a woman’s life and I’ve always managed to find a balance.”
‘I never felt that my biological clock was ticking’
The actress admits that she never felt pressurised by discussions around how a woman’s biological clock starts ticking. “Frankly, I never wanted to have a child early in life. I wasn’t even sure whether I wanted to have a baby because there was too much on my plate. I wanted to work and I didn’t want to take on responsibilities. I was borderline not maternal. My life was only my husband, my dog, my mother, and my career,” she shares.
Elaborating on how it is important to be comfortable with the idea of motherhood, she says, “I never thought... Oh, my God, my biological clock is ticking. You can have a baby as long as you are comfortable with it — mentally and physically. Gone are the days where you had to have a baby in your 20s or 30s. I always knew if it has to happen, it will happen.”
‘My husband has been very supportive, and luckily, I’ve not been too demanding’

Talking about her husband, Varun Bangera, whom she married in 2022, she says he has been extremely supportive. “Women have to go through body changes, mood swings and everything else that comes with it. There is little a man can do about that, but what he can do is understand us, our cravings and pain. And Varun understands that. He’s been very supportive and luckily, I’ve not been too demanding,” she says.

‘I didn’t stop working out’
Talking about her fitness regime during pregnancy, the Bigg Boss 8 actress shares, “You won’t believe it, but I’m exactly the same. The food I liked before pregnancy, I like the same dishes now. I was energetic then, I’m energetic now — of course, a little less because of the pregnancy. I didn’t stop working out or completely go off my routine. I think that discipline has helped me stay energetic.”
