The Health Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh, G. Veerapandian, reported that between June 26 and July 16, the state recorded 12 COVID-19 infections, resulting in four fatalities. All four deceased individuals had pre-existing severe health conditions. The commissioner noted that these individuals were battling hypertension, diabetes, kidney issues, and other serious ailments. In an official press release, he confirmed the sporadic nature of COVID-19 cases in the state during this period.

Among the deceased, three were from Kadapa district, while one was from Kakinada.

According to the commissioner, the first COVID-19 case in Andhra Pradesh for 2026 was documented on June 26 in Kadapa district, with 11 additional cases reported from July 1 to July 16. The health department indicated that two individuals contracted the virus after coming into close contact with infected persons. Notably, the majority of cases emerged from Kadapa district (eight), followed by Guntur (two), and one case each from Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.

Veerapandian emphasized that these cases were reported from various mandals and did not cluster in a single location. Furthermore, he mentioned that from June 26 to July 15, a total of 67 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the southern state, with 11 returning positive results. The 12th case was identified at the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Among the infected individuals, three are in home isolation, two are receiving treatment in hospitals, and three have recovered and been discharged.

Additionally, he reported that as of July 1, there have been 339 cases nationwide, with Kerala leading with 115 cases, followed by Karnataka (64), Maharashtra (43), Tamil Nadu (39), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Delhi (both with 18), Rajasthan (12), and several other states with additional cases.
