Thiruvananthapuram | CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam on Friday said that the party has always tried to maintain cordiality within the LDF, but making decisions in the Left front by counting votes would not be advisable.

Viswam's remark came in response to reporters' queries about reported moves by the CPI(M) to seek support of other front members to deny the Deputy Leader of Opposition position in the Kerala Assembly to the CPI.

"It is not healthy or advisable to decide matters in the LDF via a voting process or counting heads. Instead, it would be better to resolve issues through discussions," the CPI state secretary said.

He also said that the CPI was not being stubborn regarding its demand for the Deputy LoP position, neither was it casting any blame on the CPI(M), its "closest ally".

"The doors of the CPI are always open for discussions," he said in response to queries on the issue.

He said that the CPI recognises the importance of unity in the Left front and has always tried to take the LDF forward by keeping that in mind.

"We do not intend to create any conflict, but we have a stand and everyone knows about that," he said.

The CPI has been demanding the post following the Left Democratic Front's defeat in the Kerala Assembly elections, but the CPI(M) is yet to accept the demand.

CPI general secretary D Raja on Thursday said that his party deserved the post.

He said that the CPI was seeking the post as it was an important constituent of the LDF and wanted to play a more active role in the opposition.

Viswam, while speaking to the reporters, also said that there is no change in the stand of the CPI that IPS officer M R Ajithkumar is not fit to hold the post of ADGP Law and Order.

He said there were many reasons for this, primary among them being his two meetings with RSS leaders and his alleged involvement in disrupting the Thrissur Pooram celebrations in 2024.

"There is nothing personal about it," he added.
