Before the commencement of the Monsoon session in Parliament, Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended a crucial meeting on Friday at the residence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This gathering involved a high-level group of ministers and floor leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The purpose of this meeting was to finalize the NDA's strategy for the upcoming session, which is set to run from July 20 to August 13. According to officials, the government's legislative agenda will prioritize two pending bills: the 'Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026', which was introduced earlier this year, and the 'Developed India Education Institution Bill, 2025', presented in the Lok Sabha on December 15, 2025, and subsequently referred to a joint committee.
New Bills on the Agenda
The government also plans to introduce five new bills during this session. These include the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, both aimed at replacing existing ordinances. Other proposed legislations consist of the Birth and Death Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Prevention of Insult to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
Opposition Strategy Meeting
Meanwhile, a meeting of opposition leaders in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha is scheduled for July 20, coinciding with the first day of the Monsoon session. This meeting aims to devise a collective strategy, with expectations that the opposition will discuss the central government's legislative agenda and identify issues they wish to raise during the session.
