New Delhi: Activist Sonam Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike entered its 20th consecutive day on Friday, with the education reform campaigner reaffirming his determination to join the planned “Chalo Sansad” march to Parliament on July 20, despite growing concerns over his health.

‘I’ll stay alive until July 20’

Addressing supporters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Wangchuk struck a determined yet light-hearted tone, saying he would remain strong enough to participate in the march.

“I will stay alive by any means until July 20 so that I can march to Parliament with all of you. And if our march doesn’t succeed on July 20, then I’ll come back as a ghost!”

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which is leading the protest, shared his remarks on social media and wrote, “India is awakening!”

Health concerns continue

Wangchuk has been on an indefinite fast since June 28, supporting the CJP’s campaign seeking accountability over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

His health has become a growing concern as the fast enters its third week.

Political support grows

The protest continues to receive support from opposition leaders. On Thursday, Pinarayi Vijayan, Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, expressed concern over Wangchuk’s deteriorating condition and accused the Center of failing to engage with the issues raised by the activist.

Vijayan urged the Union government to intervene before Wangchuk’s health worsens further.

The CJP protest has now continued for over 25 days, while Wangchuk remains firm on participating in the Parliament march scheduled for the opening day of the Monsoon Session.
