Actor-reality star Baseer Ali gets candid about dealing with fan expectations , and why he’ll always pick truth over comfort.
He burst onto the scene in 2017 as the runner-up on Roadies Rising . The same year, he clinched the winner’s trophy on Splitsvilla 10 . He later went on to host On Road With Roadies and Splitsvilla 11, before finishing as 2nd runner-up on Ace of Space 2 in 2019.
In March 2023, Baseer made his fiction TV debut as Shaurya Luthra in the popular daily soap Kundali Bhagya , a stint that lasted till December 2024. By August 2025, he was back to reality TV, entering Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 19 as one of the 18 contestants.
Named “Hyderabad’s Most Desirable Man” by Times of India in 2017, Baseer also ranked 17th in India’s Most Desirable Men list the same year. But for all the fame, the actor says he’s never compromised on one thing — honesty. During an exclusive conversation, he shared, "Being blunt has always cost me work, relationships, and friendships. But I’ve never let it get to me,” Baseer shares. “It makes my life easier — fewer problems to deal with. If I lose something along the way, it was never mine to keep anyway.”
The actor insists he’s never been one to sugarcoat. “I value honesty over sugarcoating, even if it has a price. Pretending or holding back creates more stress than speaking the truth,” he says. “I’d rather be direct and lose people who can’t handle it than live with complications. Peace of mind matters more to me than keeping everyone comfortable. What’s meant for me will stay.”
The shift from reality shows to a daily soap, followed by a return to Bigg Boss, hasn’t been without its challenges. Baseer admits the pressure from fans can be relentless.
“The constant pressure from fans and audiences is intense, especially after a high-performance reality show,” he explains. “The audience stays in full throttle mode. They don’t want to see the momentum break, so they create a lot of pressure for you to keep delivering new work.”
For him, the demand to keep topping himself is both a rush and a burden. “It feels like you can’t pause or slow down, because expectations stay sky-high after every standout moment. The demand for consistency becomes relentless. You’re pushed to match or top your last performance every single time, which makes the creative process both thrilling and exhausting,” he adds.
From Roadies to Kundali Bhagya to Bigg Boss 19, Baseer Ali’s journey has been anything but inspiring. And if there’s one thing he’s certain of, it’s this — he’ll keep it real, no matter the cost.
