ICC has banned Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz for three months in anti-doping violation case. ICC has said that the ban on Nawaz will be considered effective from May 1, 2026. From this day he started provisional suspension. Nawaz has accepted the punishment.
Nawaz had a dope test during the T20 World Cup this year, the report of which came positive. The investigation report found a banned substance called Carboxy-THC, which is classified as a narcotic substance under the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
In April itself, there were reports that Nawaz was implicated in doping and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was investigating the matter. Due to the investigation, Nawaz’s deal with Surrey for the T20 Blast to be held in England was cancelled. Nawaz had got NOC from PCB for T20 Blast but he could not go to England after getting caught in doping.
Nawaz’s records also canceled along with ban
The governing body of World Cricket said in its statement that Nawaz has accepted his mistake and proved that he had not used that substance during the T20 World Cup. Apart from this, Nawaz also admitted that the use of that banned substance had nothing to do with his sporting performance.
32-year-old Nawaz had undergone dope test after the match against Netherlands on 7 February. The ICC has canceled Nawaz’s individual records from all the matches played from this match till May 1. That means his performance during this period will not be recognized in the official records.
Punishment may be reduced by one month
Nawaz accepted the punishment and agreed to undergo a substance abuse treatment program, lifting his provisional suspension, which began on May 1. However, his two and a half month provisional suspension has already ended. Nawaz’s sentence will be reduced to one month after completing the rehabilitation program.
