Tough competition with Ukrainian wrestler in the final of wrestling tournament
Budapest: Under-23 World Championship silver medalist Hansika Lamba performed brilliantly at the ‘Polyak Imre, Varga Janos and Kozma Istvan Memorial Senior Ranking Tournament’ to win the silver medal in the women’s 55 kg category. Hansika made a brilliant comeback in the semi-finals and secured her place in the title fight.
After trailing 2-7 against Germany’s Anastasia Blavas, she came back with full force and won 10-7. But in the gold medal match, Hansika lost 0-5 on points (VPO) despite giving a tough fight to her strong opponent Natalia Klychutska of Ukraine, due to which she had to settle for second place. Although, This is another achievement for Hansika at the international level as she had earlier won the bronze medal in the 2026 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship.
The freestyle wrestlers of the Indian team increased the country’s medal count by winning 2 bronze medals on the second day of the competition. Vishal Kaliraman 65 Defeated Osumzhan Dastanbek of Kazakhstan 8-2 in the play-off for third place in the kilogram category. There itself, Rajat Ruhal got the bronze medal in the 125 kg heavyweight category after America’s Mason Mark Paris withdrew from the match.
