London: The third match of the ongoing ODI series between India and England is going to be special in many ways. On one hand, Team India will take the field with the intention of winning the series, while on the other hand, captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli are going to add a new chapter in the history of Indian cricket.

In recent times, there are continuous discussions regarding Rohit Sharma’s ODI future. It is being claimed in social media and many reports that the third ODI played at Lord’s could be his last international match. However, neither Rohit Sharma has given any statement in this regard nor has any official confirmation been given by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). At present all these things are based only on speculations.

Rohit’s bat did not work in the first two ODIs

Rohit Sharma did not look in his rhythm in the first two ODI matches played on the England tour. In the first match, he scored 11 runs in 21 balls, whereas in the second ODI, he could score only 26 runs facing 47 balls. There is a constant discussion in the cricket world about his slow batting.

India had registered a spectacular victory in the first match, while in the second match, England made a comeback and leveled the series 1-1. In such a situation, the third ODI has become a decisive match.

Historic record will be made at Lord’s

When Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli take the field together at Lord’s Cricket Ground, it will be the 400th international match played by both of them. For the first time in the history of Indian cricket, any pair will reach this figure.

Till now both the players have played 399 international matches together for India. After retiring from Test and T20 International cricket, now this historic achievement is going to be recorded in ODI cricket.

This pair has already broken the record of Sachin-Dravid

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have already become India’s most played international pair. Some time ago, he had left behind Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid’s record of partnership of 391 matches.

In the list of Indian pairs, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly are next with 369 matches.

However, the record for playing the most number of international matches together in world cricket is in the name of Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, who have played 550 matches together. Reaching this record is not considered easy for any pair.

Still suspense on Rohit’s future

At present, no official information has been revealed regarding whether Lord’s ODI will be the last international match of Rohit Sharma’s career or not. But it is certain that if Rohit and Virat enter together in this match, then they will record a new history of the longest and most successful international partnership of Indian cricket.
