Rainy season and care of vegetables

The rainy season may be pleasant, but it also brings many problems in the kitchen. At this time vegetables start spoiling quickly. Within a few days, they become soft, start getting stains on them or they start giving off a strange smell. In such a situation, the question arises that when vegetables are kept in the refrigerator, then why do they get spoiled?

You may also have faced this problem. Actually, during the rainy season the level of moisture in the air increases, which proves harmful for vegetables. Come, let us get more information on this topic.

Why do vegetables spoil quickly in the rain?

First let us understand why vegetables get spoiled during rains despite being kept in the refrigerator.

– Humidity in the atmosphere increases during the rainy season. Since vegetables are already filled with water, moisture can cause fungus, bacteria and rot to develop quickly.

– If wet vegetables are kept directly in the refrigerator, they start melting quickly. Especially vegetables like coriander, spinach, fenugreek, lady’s finger, bottle gourd and capsicum spoil quickly due to this reason.

– Sometimes due to laziness or other reasons, we fill too many vegetables in the fridge tray, due to which air circulation does not occur between them properly. Due to this, some vegetables start sweating and gradually spoil the other vegetables too.

Sometimes, even a spoiled vegetable kept in the fridge spoils other vegetables quickly.

How to protect vegetables from getting spoiled in rain?

If some things are kept in mind, vegetables can be saved from getting spoiled during the rainy season. For example:

– After washing the vegetables, wipe them thoroughly with a dry cloth or kitchen towel. There should not be any water drops left in them.

– Keep vegetables like coriander, mint, spinach wrapped in light dry tissue paper or cotton cloth, so that they can absorb excess moisture.

– If black spots, bad smell or stickiness are seen in any vegetable, immediately separate it from other vegetables.

– If there is already moisture, water or old leaves in the fridge tray, new vegetables will also spoil quickly. Therefore it is necessary to clean and dry the tray once or twice a week.

– Avoid buying too many vegetables at once in the rain.
