Lucknow. The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to provide big relief to the needy girl students pursuing higher education. Work is going on to change the rules of Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Scheme, so that the scheme is not limited only to the girl students scoring high marks, but the economically weak and meritorious girl students from rural areas can also avail its benefits. After the proposed changes, the chances of more girl students getting scooters will increase than before.
Now poor girl students with low marks will also get a chance
The initial proposal was to give scooties only to girl students who scored 90 percent or more marks. But now the government is considering making this rule more practical. Under the new preparation, the minimum marks limit can be reduced from 80 percent to 75 percent. Its objective is that such girl students can also take advantage of the scheme, who are good in studies but are getting education in very difficult circumstances.
Special focus will be on rural and needy girl students
The government’s emphasis is on the fact that the benefits of the scheme should first reach those girl students who face the most trouble in commuting to college. Poor girl students living in villages and towns often have to travel long distances, which affects their studies. For this reason, economic condition is being made the main basis in the new rules, so that genuinely needy girl students can get priority.
There may be a big change in the income limit also
There are also preparations to amend the annual income limit of the family for the scheme. The limit currently proposed was relatively high, but now it is being considered to reduce it so that the benefit is limited only to economically weaker families. This change will provide more opportunities to those girl students whose financial condition of their family is weak due to which it is challenging to pursue higher education.
Preference will be given to final year graduation girl students
The Higher Education Department is also brainstorming that under the scheme, first of all, the girl students studying in the final year of graduation should be given scooties. Nearly 9 lakh girl students are studying in various courses in the universities and degree colleges of the state, hence there is a possibility of implementing the scheme in a phased manner.
Rules are being changed after the advice of the Governor
On the proposal prepared before the scheme, Governor Anandiben Patel had suggested that rules should be made in such a way that poor girl students of villages and towns can get real benefits. After this, the Higher Education Department has accelerated the process of amending the eligibility conditions. Now the department is preparing to implement the scheme soon by finalizing the new rules.
Budget already ready, plan can start soon
The state government has already earmarked a budget of Rs 400 crore for this scheme. Now the process of distribution of scooters is expected to be started after the new eligibility rules are decided. The government believes that this will provide convenience to thousands of girl students in commuting to college, the possibility of dropping out of studies will be reduced and the higher education of daughters will get a new impetus.
