US-Iran War: Tension between Iran and America is continuously increasing. According to Iran’s government media, 3 people were killed and 8 others were injured in air strikes carried out by the US in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province in the early hours of Saturday. Iranian state news agency IRNA quoted Hormozgan’s deputy governor for political, security and social affairs as saying that the casualties came after “enemy attacks” that targeted several areas of the province.
This is the seventh consecutive night that America has taken military action against Iran. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement released on social media platform
What did Iran say on Hormuz?
As the fighting intensifies, Iran has claimed that it has further affected the movement of ships in Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil transportation routes. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said two oil tankers exploded as they tried to pass through a minefield south of Hormuz.
According to IRNA, the IRGC alleged that the ships were trying to pass through that route under “misleading guidance from US intelligence agencies”. However, Iran did not reveal the identity of the tankers nor did it present any evidence to support its claim. The IRGC also claimed to have intercepted four ships trying to pass through the strategic waterway. These claims could not be independently verified.
Why did America attack now?
The latest development has come to light at a time when it is believed that America is expanding the scope of its military campaign against Iran. President Donald Trump has already warned of targeting Iran’s infrastructure. However, US officials have not confirmed whether any civilians or strategic structures were targeted in the latest attacks.
What devastation in Iran?
On the other hand, Iran has alleged that the US military attacked several civilian structures including an airport, a railway station and two bridges. Iran also claimed that it had targeted US military bases across the region. However, these allegations also could not be independently confirmed.
What warning did Iran give?
Senior Iranian officials have warned that if US attacks continue, Tehran could take the conflict to a larger level. Major General Mohsen Rezaei, a senior military adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Iran would launch a “full-scale offensive military operation” if the US continued attacks for the next two to three days. According to Razai, after this Iran will not be limited to only retaliatory action and no political border will be safe.
At the same time, Majid Mousavi, Aerospace Commander of the Revolutionary Guards, said that until America stops its operations in Iran’s southern coastal areas and around Hormuz, Iranian missile and drone attacks will continue.
Which countries did the tension reach?
The effect of the increasing conflict between Iran and America is now visible on other countries of the Gulf region as well. Kuwait said that an important electricity and water facility was damaged in the Iranian attack. After this the administration appealed to the people to save electricity. The Kuwaiti army also said that many of its soldiers have been injured in Iranian drone attacks on several military bases.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed that it targeted American radar systems and military aircraft in Qatar. At the same time, Qatari officials said that their air defense system intercepted the incoming missiles.
Iran also claimed to have attacked US radar installations in Oman and the al-Tanf military base in Syria. However, a Syrian military source denied the attack, while US officials said US forces had evacuated the al-Tanf base earlier this year.
The Jordanian army said that it intercepted three Iranian missiles in the air. At the same time, Bahrain appealed to its citizens to go to safe places, because Iranian state media had claimed that American planes and helicopters deployed at an airbase located on the island have been targeted.
Are sea ships safe?
The threat to commercial ships is also continuously increasing. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said that an oil tanker near the coast of Oman was hit by a projectile at night. According to the agency, attacks on ships operating around Hormuz are continuing.
Appeal for talks, but no signs of solution
China, Pakistan and many other countries have appealed to America and Iran to find a solution through talks. However, there has been no sign of any progress so far. Increasing attacks and retaliation have raised fears that the conflict could escalate into a major war across the region.
