NEET: On Thursday, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare reviewed the functioning of regulatory bodies under the Ministry of Health regarding the conduct of the NEET-UG examination. Issues such as the examination system, monitoring mechanisms, and institutional accountability were discussed during the meeting.

Chaired by Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav, the meeting saw officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and subject matter experts present their views and suggestions to the committee. The committee also deliberated on aspects aimed at making the examination process more transparent and effective.

**Written report sought from NTA**
According to sources, the committee deliberated on various aspects related to the conduct of the NEET-UG exam and offered several suggestions to improve the NTA's functioning. Additionally, the concerned officials have been asked to submit a detailed written report on these issues.

Sources indicated that two other parliamentary committees had previously discussed the NEET controversy. Those meetings were attended by senior officials from the Ministries of Health and Higher Education, as well as representatives from the NTA, the National Medical Commission (NMC), and the CBI (which is investigating the NEET paper leak case). During the meeting, the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Family Welfare also held an extensive discussion on making healthcare services in both the public and private sectors more affordable and accessible to the general public.

**What issues were discussed during the meeting?**
A PowerPoint presentation on 'One Nation-One Entrance Exam' and 'SmartInsta Test-AI' (SITAI) was delivered during the meeting.
This presentation was made by Balaveera Reddy, former Chairman of the Board of Governors at NITK Surathkal and former Vice-Chancellor of VTU Karnataka.
The issue of affordability and availability of healthcare facilities in the public and private sectors was also discussed.
Testimony was heard from officials representing the NPPA, QCI, NABH, DCGI, and CDSCO regarding this subject.

The organizational structure, operational methodology, and functional efficiency of regulatory bodies associated with the Ministry of Health were reviewed. Deliberations were held regarding aspects related to conducting the NEET examination under the NMC Act, 2019.

Three Parliamentary Committees Review the NEET Controversy
Three parliamentary committees have so far deliberated on the NEET-UG exam controversy. Following the Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports and the Committee on Government Assurances, the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Family Welfare also examined the matter.

The committees discussed measures to strengthen the examination system and prevent incidents like paper leaks with the NMC Chairman, Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, and NTA Director General Abhishek Singh. It is noteworthy that the NEET-UG exam, originally held on May 3, was cancelled and re-conducted on June 21.
