Tech Tips: Humidity levels rise significantly during the rainy season. High humidity can affect the performance of the circuits and batteries inside electronic devices.
The rainy season is currently underway across the country. While this weather brings relief from the heat, it often causes various electronic devices to malfunction or deteriorate quickly. It is frequently observed that smartphone batteries drain faster during this season. People often assume their battery is faulty or that there is an issue with the phone itself. Let’s understand the reasons behind this.
As mentioned, humidity levels in the air increase significantly during the rainy season. This excess moisture can impact the performance of the circuits and batteries within electronic devices. Additionally, fluctuating temperatures affect the efficiency of lithium-ion batteries. In such conditions, the battery does not function as effectively as it does in dry weather.
Furthermore, network issues are common during the rainy season. In such situations, the phone constantly searches for a signal, placing extra strain on the battery. This process consumes energy from both the processor and the battery, resulting in reduced battery life.
Monsoon weather often brings lower light levels, prompting many users to increase screen brightness for better visibility. High brightness is a major factor in rapid battery drainage. Additionally, weather updates, location services, cloud syncing, and other background apps continue to run, placing further strain on the battery.
It is also worth noting that if moisture enters the phone or the charging port during the rainy season, charging speeds may slow down, or the phone might stop charging altogether. Many smartphones automatically halt charging for safety reasons upon detecting moisture. Therefore, if your phone is wet, do not make the mistake of plugging it in to charge.
You can extend your battery life even during the rainy season. To do this, keep the screen brightness on auto mode. Turn off services like Bluetooth, GPS, and 5G when not in use. Additionally, close unnecessary apps running in the background. Use airplane mode when necessary in areas with weak network coverage.
