New Delhi: Young cricketer Manjot Kalra, who made India win the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, is once again in the news, but this time the reason is not his batting but a legal matter. Manjot Kalra has been arrested in a case to alleged corruption and match fixing during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 in Sri Lanka. Indian citizen Yuvraj Pushpa has also been detained along with him. The court has sent both of them to judicial custody till July 31.
Allegation of instigating match fixing
According to local media reports, Manjot Kalra is accused of trying to instigate a player for match fixing. This case is being investigated by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sri Lanka, which investigates corruption cases to sports. At present the investigation is going on and further legal process is going on in the matter.
LPL will not be affected
After the arrest, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has clarified that this incident will not have any impact on the organization of Lanka Premier League 2026. The board said that it is fully cooperating with the investigating agencies and is committed to maintaining the transparency and fairness of the league.
SLC reiterated that its zero tolerance policy towards any kind of corruption or unethical activity will remain in force in the tournament. The anti-corruption unit of the board is continuously working with government investigating agencies.
Became Hero of India in 2018
Manjot Kalra played an important role in India winning the title by scoring a brilliant century in the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup final. After his strong innings, he was considered the rising star of Indian cricket.
Later, he distanced himself from professional cricket and moved towards sports business and recently became the co-owner of the Lanka Premier League franchise Jaffna Kings.
All eyes fixed on investigation
At present, the investigation of the case is going on and further hearing in the court is awaited. The allegations have not been proved yet. This incident has definitely created a stir in the cricket world and everyone’s eyes are on the next action of the investigating agencies.
