The state has achieved the second position nationwide in rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Consequently, lakhs of families are now generating electricity via rooftop solar panels and saving on their electricity bills. The rise in solar installations is not only providing relief on electricity bills but is also rapidly creating new employment opportunities within the state. UP Ranks Second in Rooftop Solar

Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, solar panels have been installed on the rooftops of over 6.74 lakh homes in Uttar Pradesh so far. With this achievement, UP has reached the number two spot in the national rankings. Gujarat holds the first position on this list, while Maharashtra ranks third.

Uttar Pradesh has installed approximately 2,283.8 megawatts (2.28 gigawatts) of rooftop solar capacity to date. The primary benefit is that lakhs of families are generating electricity to meet their own needs, resulting in significant savings on their electricity bills. Thus, solar energy is emerging not merely as a means of power generation but as a crucial sector strengthening the state's economy.

Solar Industry Boosts Jobs and Business

Over 7,000 solar companies and business units are currently active.
They have provided employment to more than 85,000 people.
Jobs in installation, engineering, electrical work, and maintenance have increased.
Small-scale industries have also benefited from the demand for inverters, cables, and solar equipment.
