Big news for railway employees, retired employees will get the benefit of notional increment.

Railway Pension Update: There is a relief news for the employees who have retired or are going to retire soon from Indian Railways. Railway Board has issued instructions to speed up the process of giving the benefit of notional increment (notional annual salary increase) to the eligible employees who retired on June 30. With this decision, the pension of many pensioners can increase and they can also get the benefit of arrears.

In the order issued on July 16, 2026, the Railway Board has directed all zonal railways and production units to settle the pending cases to notional increment as soon as possible. The objective of Railways is to provide their entitlements on time to the eligible employees and eliminate delays in pension matters.

Why did those who retired on June 30 not get benefits?

Actually, the annual increment of railway employees comes into effect from July 1 every year. Employees who would have retired on 30 June were no longer in service on 1 July. For this reason, he had to be deprived of the increment benefit which was to be implemented the next day. This had an impact on their final salary calculation, pension and post-retirement benefits even though they had served the entire year.

Relief received after Supreme Court’s decision

The Supreme Court had given an important decision on this issue of employees retiring on June 30. After this, based on the guidelines of the Central Government, Railways has started the process of giving the benefit of annual increment of July 1 to the eligible employees.

What benefits will the employees get?

After getting the benefit of notional increment, the eligible employees-

They may get an increase in their monthly pension.
Revised Pension Payment Orders (PPO) will be issued.
The outstanding arrears will be paid along with the increased pension.
The benefit amount will be sent to bank accounts in a phased manner.

Railways gave instructions to officials

Railway Board has asked the officials to prepare the list of eligible employees soon and resolve the pending cases within the time limit. Railways says that getting the benefits on time will provide relief to the pensioners and the need to go to court again and again in such cases will also be reduced.
