Michael Carrick has been given a significant boost in his transfer plans as Manchester United look to secure a major signing ahead of the new season, with Brighton’s £100 million-rated midfielder Carlos Baleba reportedly determined to move to Old Trafford.
The ongoing recruitment efforts at Old Trafford could soon deliver an impressive third addition to the midfield before the new campaign kicks off. Having already invested heavily to strengthen the team’s core, the club’s hierarchy is fully aware that one of their top targets remains eager to realise his dream move to the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
Manchester United target Baleba
Reports indicate that the Red Devils have temporarily slowed down their recruitment drive following the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, who came in to fill the gap left by Casemiro’s departure. However, according to a recent report from GIVEMESPORT, club officials are still intent on adding one more dominant midfielder to enhance squad depth ahead of the upcoming season. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba has now emerged as their leading target, with the player said to be focused exclusively on securing a transfer to Manchester United.
Transfer update from journalist
Ben Jacobs, senior football correspondent for GIVEMESPORT, has provided the latest insights into the Premier League giants’ pursuit of Baleba and the potential ease of agreeing personal terms.
Speaking to The United Stand, Jacobs explained: “If they are ready to meet Brighton’s valuation, this deal could move quickly because Baleba’s situation is similar to Youri Tielemans’. Last summer, he made it clear he only wanted Manchester United, and that stance hasn’t changed. So if United make their move, personal terms will not be an obstacle.”
He further added: “They could achieve full player commitment, which would allow them to negotiate directly with Brighton rather than entering a bidding battle. However, it’s important to note that we’re not at that point yet, as Manchester United have paused their recruitment briefly to decide who their third midfield signing should be.”
Brighton’s hefty asking price
The Cameroon international endured a challenging season last term amid persistent speculation of a potential exit from the Amex Stadium. A previous attempt by Manchester United to sign him failed to materialise due to the lack of an official offer, even though the club was reportedly ready to pay around £75 million. Now, Brighton are expected to demand a massive fee of approximately £100 million for the midfielder, who remains under contract until 2028.
Midfield rebuild approaching its final phase
With time still on their side before the transfer window closes, Manchester United’s recruitment team are carefully assessing Brighton’s steep valuation. Michael Carrick must soon finalise his midfield strategy to ensure his squad is fully equipped for both Premier League and Champions League challenges. The upcoming pre-season fixtures are likely to play a decisive role in determining whether the club should pursue direct negotiations for Baleba or place faith in their existing midfield options.
