US forces launched a 'new airstrike' against Iran on Saturday. This action has been taken after the death of two American soldiers in Jordan. US Central Command said that the purpose of the attacks on the instructions of President Trump is to punish the IRGC.

Washington DC [यूएस]July 19 (ANI): US forces launched a "new airstrike" against Iran on Saturday (local time). Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was targeted in these attacks. The move is aimed at reducing Tehran's ability to pose a threat to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to avenge the death of two US soldiers following Islamic Republic attacks in Jordan.

In a post on Twitter, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were carried out on the instructions of US President Donald Trump and were intended to "immediately punish" IRGC forces responsible for attacks on US personnel. CENTCOM said, "Today at 6 p.m. (ET), U.S. forces, as directed by the Commander in Chief, launched new airstrikes against Iran. These strikes are intended to further degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to immediately punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces that attacked U.S. service members in Jordan last night."

Two American soldiers died

The announcement follows CENTCOM's confirmation that two US soldiers were killed and another missing in Jordan during operations to defend against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks.

According to CENTCOM, the soldiers died in the line of duty during a coordinated defense against Iranian attacks on July 17. "On July 17, two U.S. soldiers were killed in the line of duty in Jordan. The incident occurred as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces were defending against attacks by Iran with ballistic missiles and drones. Additionally, one soldier is still missing," the statement said. CENTCOM further said that four US soldiers injured during the attacks were airlifted to Jordanian hospitals. All four have now been discharged, while other personnel who were treated for minor injuries have returned to duty.

Iran also retaliated

On Friday, the Iranian military said it had targeted a fuel storage facility at Jordan's Al-Azraq Air Base as part of the 14th phase of Operation Lightning, along with drone strikes on several US military bases in Jordan and Kuwait.

According to the statement of the Iranian military's public relations department, the country's armed forces also targeted an ammunition depot, headquarters buildings and ammunition depot at Al-Udairi Camp at Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, as well as several communication bridges. The Iranian strikes came in retaliation after US forces launched another round of military strikes against Iran, marking the seventh consecutive night of operations. (ANI)
