New Delhi/Lucknow. The ongoing protests in the country over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) paper leak issue are now turning into a major nationwide political and social movement. The country’s well-known social activist Anna Hazare has also entered on this sensitive issue. Releasing a special video message on Saturday, Anna Hazare has strongly warned the Modi government at the Center that the government should not test the patience of the agitators and should immediately establish communication with educationist Sonam Wangchuk. It is noteworthy that Sonam Wangchuk is sitting on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET rigging. After this statement of Anna Hazare, who shook the foundations of the then UPA government with the Lokpal movement in 2011, the stir in the political circles has intensified.
“Dialogue and harmony are the only way, the solution will not come by dragging on too much”
Anna Hazare, in his message, stressed the importance of democratic values and dialogue, saying, “In any democratic country, even the biggest problems can be solved only through dialogue and mutual consent. In my public life, I too have fasted unto death many times for social welfare, but such a deadlock situation never came between the government and the agitators. The government may clearly say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to their demands, but in sitting at the table and talking, What’s the harm? If this sensitive issue is dragged on unnecessarily, the problem will become worse instead of being resolved.”
Wangchuk’s health deteriorated on the 21st day, shifted from Jantar Mantar to hospital
Meanwhile, the ongoing movement at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar created a stir on Saturday morning when Delhi Police, acting with heavy security force, removed Sonam Wangchuk from the fast site. Saturday was the 21st day of Wangchuk’s indefinite hunger strike and his physical condition was continuously deteriorating, after which the administration admitted him to a government hospital in Delhi. Regarding this sudden police action of the government, the entire opposition has termed it as complete ‘dictatorship’ and has alleged that the central government is bent on openly destroying the dignity of democracy and the Constitution in the country.
Rahul Gandhi’s direct attack on the government: “Police are crushing democratic rights”
All the parties of the main opposition alliance ‘INDIA’, especially Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP), have in one voice attacked the government against the forced removal of Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi termed this action completely unconstitutional and wrote on social media platform From dragging women wrestlers to misbehaving with ex-servicemen, this government has repeatedly crushed the democratic rights of the country’s citizens. But the government should remember that no power can suppress the voices that raise the rights of the country’s students.”
