After seasons of gravity-defying silhouettes and sculptural couture, Gaurav Gupta chose to surprise. In Mumbai on Thursday evening, the couturier presented Light Song—a collection that traded overt structure for fluidity, texture and craftsmanship, while staying rooted in the dramatic aesthetic his label has become known for. Inspired by the dialogue between the Moon and the Sun in Indian philosophy, the collection unfolded through shimmering evening gowns, intricately embroidered bridal lehengas and sharply tailored menswear, with celestial motifs woven into every chapter of the show.

"We have particularly stayed away from sculpting in this whole collection. There's parts of it here and there because so many people in the world just recognise our brand for sculpting. But I think there's sculpting in our drapes, in our embroidery... in the way the fabric would flow, even if it's a plain satin gown. We wanted to remind people that we've been known for many other things for the last 20 years,"Gupta told us, ahead of the show.



The designer also revealed that every element of the presentation—from the embroidery and colour palette to the casting—was considered an extension of the collection's creative language. "It could be the artwork, the embroidery technique, the colour, the draping, the construction, the choice of the model. It's the authenticity of a creative voice that people resonate with," he said.
