Navitas Solar today announced that its dedicated engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) arm, Navitas Planet, has been awarded a US$20 million contract to develop a 54 MW utility-scale solar power project in Zambia’s Serengeti Province. The project is an important step in Navitas Solar’s global expansion strategy and strengthens the company’s presence in Africa’s fast-growing renewable energy sector.

Under this EPC contract, Navitas Planet will undertake the entire project implementation itself from start to finish, including engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (commissioning). The project will use Navitas Solar’s high efficiency bifacial Topcon modules and other key components sourced from leading global manufacturers. The project is expected to be completed and operational within an implementation period of approximately seven to eight months.

Navitas Solar Director Sunay Shah said, “This project is an important milestone in Navitas Planet’s international development journey and highlights the growing global demand for renewable energy expertise in India. Beyond expanding renewable energy capacity, the project is expected to bring significant environmental and economic benefits. Once operational, the solar power plant is expected to generate clean electricity, reducing carbon emissions by around 42,570 tonnes annually. This will create local employment opportunities during construction and associated project works, thereby boosting local economic development and skill generation.

The project further supports Zambia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 47 percent by 2030. Being Navitas Planet’s first utility-scale EPC project in Africa, this development lays a strong foundation for the company’s long-term growth strategy across the continent, where the demand for reliable, affordable and sustainable energy infrastructure continues to grow.
