New Delhi. India’s next T20 series will be played against Zimbabwe, which will be captained by Shreyas Iyer. Most of the players of the team have left for the tour, while the players who were part of the ODI series against England will join the team after the third ODI. However, head coach Gautam Gambhir will not accompany the team on this tour.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken this decision under workload management in view of the busy international schedule. The board has handed over the responsibility of acting head coach to the head of the Center of Excellence and former Indian batsman VVS Laxman for this tour.

Decision taken under workload management

In the recent T20 matches, Team India had to face defeat against Ireland and England, after which there were discussions about the coaching of Gautam Gambhir. However, this decision of BCCI is not being linked to those results. The board has clearly entrusted this responsibility to VVS Laxman keeping in mind the busy schedule and the workload of the coaching staff.

This is not the first time this has happened. Earlier, despite being the head coach of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman has played the role of coach with Team India on foreign tours.

VVS Laxman will take command of the team

VVS Laxman has been associated with BCCI’s Center of Excellence for a long time and has played an important role in the development of young players. He will take up the responsibility of head coach on the Zimbabwe tour.

Shreyas Iyer (captain), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Rinku Singh, Shivam Dubey, Abhishek Sharma, Yash Thakur, Prabhasimran Singh (wicketkeeper), Tilak Verma, Ravi Bishnoi, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Mayank Yadav, Ashok Sharma, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Suryavanshi
