Kyiv Missile Attack: The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has once again taken a horrific turn. Early on Sunday, Russia launched an all-out attack on several major cities including Ukraine’s capital Kiev with ballistic missiles, drones and guided bombs. At least 6 people have died and dozens have been seriously injured in this military action.
The attack exposed the limitations of Ukraine’s defense system, particularly the US-made Patriot air defense system, which struggled to intercept Russian ballistic missiles.
Attack with 41 missiles and 125 drones
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia began its operation at around 1:30 am on Sunday night, which lasted for several hours. Moscow fired 41 missiles and 125 drones across Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that most of these were aimed at the capital Kiev.
Major fires broke out in five districts of Kiev following the attack, causing extensive damage to residential buildings, offices, industrial sites and a dormitory.

Beyond the capital, an attack on a postal center near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, killed three people and injured more than 20. In addition, the cities of Kherson and Sumy were also targeted by Russian guided bombs, where there were reports of casualties.
According to local people, Russian attacks are now happening more frequently than before, causing mental stress and fear among citizens.
Ukraine retaliated
In response to this Russian attack, Ukraine has also targeted Russian energy infrastructure. President Zelensky announced that Ukrainian units had attacked three oil depots in the Stavropol region and Russian tankers in the Black Sea.
On the other hand, Russia’s Defense Ministry claims that they have shot down 140 Ukrainian drones overnight. Russia also said that their strikes were limited to military objectives and drone manufacturing units only.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has talked about granting license to Ukraine to make Patriot missile system to strengthen the security of Kiev, although its timeline is not yet clear. Looking at the current situation, it has become clear that the conflict between the two countries has now turned towards destroying the oil industry and energy resources.
