The grand trailer launch of Nitesh Tiwari's
Ramayan at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi wasn't just a showcase for its stellar cast—it also marked a milestone moment for sitar virtuoso Rishab Rikhiram Sharma . The acclaimed neo-classical musician has officially joined the film's music team, collaborating with Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer and Oscar-winning music director A.R. Rahman to shape the score of one of Indian cinema's most ambitious productions.
Making his first major foray into Hindi film scoring, Sharma has contributed to the trailer's title track as well as several key musical sequences in the film. His compositions aim to weave the richness of Indian classical music with a contemporary cinematic soundscape.
Before the trailer was unveiled, Sharma delivered a live performance that became one of the evening's highlights. Performing on his custom-engineered electronic sitar, SITARA, he presented the devotional
Rama Rama alongside original compositions including
Tilak Kamod,
Chanakya,
Kautilya and
Tandavam, earning applause from the audience, including lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi.
Ahead of the event, Sharma shared a photograph on Instagram with director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, who essays the role of Ravana. The musician was also seen wearing a limited-edition watch inspired by the Ram Janmabhoomi, reportedly valued at over ₹35 lakh.
Welcoming Sharma to the project, producer Namit Malhotra said,
"We're delighted to welcome Rishab Rikhiram Sharma to the musical journey of Ramayan. Alongside Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, he will be contributing his unique artistry to the film's score. His distinctive musical voice brings a fresh perspective to this epic and we're excited to have him on board."
Over the years, Sharma has carved a niche for himself as one of India's leading contemporary classical musicians. The youngest and last disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, he has introduced global audiences to the sitar through his
Sitar for Mental Health initiative, which explores music as a tool for mindfulness and emotional well-being. His performances across India and abroad have helped reimagine the instrument for a younger generation.
His association with
Ramayan marks another significant milestone, bringing the sitar to the heart of a large-scale cinematic spectacle.
Ramayan stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lord Lakshman.
Ramayan: Part One is slated to release during Diwali 2026, followed by
Part Two in Diwali 2027.
