Jio Satellite Internet— Reliance Jio has crossed a huge milestone in launching satellite internet service based on indigenous technology in India. IN-SPACe (In-Space), the regulatory body of the space sector in the country, has given its approval to Jio’s 1600 LEO (Low Earth Orbit) satellites network, finding it technically completely correct. After this approval, the way has been cleared to reach very high speed internet in remote areas of the country.

Three big government institutions did a tough test

Before launching this upcoming satellite service of Jio in the Indian market, it has been closely examined by the three biggest technical and regulatory bodies of the government. IN-SPACe, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing (WPC) of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) were involved in this joint investigation. This satellite network of Jio has been given official clearance only after strict technical tests and meeting the standards.

Internet speed will be much higher than Starlink and Amazon

This step of Reliance Jio in the satellite internet market will directly challenge Elon Musk’s company Starlink and Jeff Bezos’s Amazon Project Kuiper. Jio claims that through this satellite network, a combined data capacity (Internet speed) of 4.5 to 5 terabit per second (Tbps) can be achieved.
In comparison, there is talk of Musk’s plan to allow Starlink to operate in India at a speed of 600 gigabits per second (Gbps) and Amazon to operate at a speed of 3 terabits per second (Tbps). This speed of Jio puts it far ahead in the game compared to its opponents.

Why is this project special for security and military?

20 to 22 ground stations will be built across the country, internet will work on mobile also

Reliance Jio is not going to be limited to just traditional Fixed Satellite Service (FSS). The company is also working rapidly on direct-to-device (D2D) mobile satellite service that provides satellite connectivity directly to mobile phones. To operate this entire network smoothly and connect every corner of the country, Jio is preparing to establish 20 to 22 ground stations (earth stations) across the country. After this, even in remote hilly and rural areas without mobile towers, people will be able to get high-speed internet directly from satellite.
