However, exports of this category declined by 4.1 percent to $27.2 million in the April-June period.

The decline in rough diamond trade continues as Indian jewelers look to reduce existing stocks before making fresh purchases in view of demand uncertainty in overseas markets.

Analysts say demand from end consumers is likely to increase, which will also naturally accelerate the import cycle of this product category. According to experts, lab-grown diamonds have received an overwhelming response in the international markets as consumers are becoming more price-conscious amid the uncertainties. The category has emerged as an attractive alternative to natural diamonds for price-sensitive customers and is likely to strengthen further in the future.
