Australia may have Cameron Green and Beau Webster on the same side with an eye towards a challenging 12-month slate of cricket ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Selectors are set to reveal the squad for Tuesday for the Tests in Darwin and Mackay. With 21 Tests scheduled in the next 12 months by Australia, the workload of senior bowlers has become a huge concern.

The Australian pace attack of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland are all towards the end of their Test careers, and Australian experienced off-spinner Nathan Lyon has returned from a hamstring injury. Therefore, with the inclusion of two pace-bowling all-rounders, Australia may have more options during an encounter.

Previously, the talk was that after the retirement of Usman Khawaja, Cameron Green might open the batting, but now it looks like he may bat down the order at number 5, and Beau Webster comes in at number 7 after the keeper Alex Carey.

The CA have received recent criticism for not having utilised Green properly in Test cricket, but the 27-year-old is still one of the most prominent all-round options for Australia. Webster, too, has always benefited from the opportunities given to him and has maintained his good form while playing county cricket for Warwickshire.

Pairing Green with Webster would provide Australia with extra bowling options and would strengthen the batting order when they face the series against Bangladesh, South Africa, New Zealand, India and England over the next 12 months.

Bangladesh received a setback before the start of the series, as the fast bowler Nahid Rana is likely to be ruled out of the first Test due to a side strain.

The 23-year-old was impressive in Bangladesh's series win over Australia in the 50-over format in June, where he consistently bowled at 150 km/hr. He picked up the injury in the series against Zimbabwe during the T20I matches, and he is likely to require a recovery period of at least three weeks.

Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon has announced that he has recovered from his hamstring injury in every way and is available for selection.

"Very confident I'll be here next month, feeling very good, the rehab's been very good. So back to doing everything, running high speed, doing everything like that. No one's got a right to be selected for Australia. I'm still trying to get better."

A 13 or 14-man Australian squad is set to be named, with Green and Webster among the anticipated selection of key players for the Test series against Bangladesh.
