Arijit Singh left millions of fans emotional earlier this year after announcing that he was stepping away from playback singing. Naturally, many believed they had already heard his last film song. But now, fresh reports suggest that the singer may be making an unexpected comeback. If the reports are true, Arijit Singh has lent his voice to Yeh Awarapan, the title track of Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2. The song is reportedly scheduled to be released on July 21, making it a special moment for fans who have been waiting to hear him again.

According to the reports by Pinkvilla, Arijit Singh has reunited with Vishesh Films for Yeh Awarapan, the title track of Awarapan 2. The report quoted a source saying that Vishesh Bhatt wanted the music of the sequel to carry the emotional essence of the original film and believed Arijit’s voice was the perfect fit for Shivam Pandit’s journey.

The source also pointed out that Arijit’s association with Vishesh Films goes back several years. It was the production house that first introduced him as a playback singer with Phir Mohabbat from Murder 2. Since then, they have collaborated on several memorable songs, including Tum Hi Ho from Aashiqui 2, Muskurane from CityLights, the Khamoshiyan title track, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, and Pal from Jalebi.

If the reports are accurate, Yeh Awarapan will mark Arijit Singh’s return to playback singing after months away from recording new songs.

Back on January 27, Arijit Singh shared an emotional note on social media announcing that he would no longer accept new playback singing assignments. He thanked listeners for their love over the years and described it as “a wonderful journey”, leaving fans shocked by the decision.

Meanwhile, Awarapan 2 brings Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit. The sequel also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in key roles. Directed by Nitin Kakkar and backed by Vishesh Films, the film is scheduled to release in theatres on August 14, 2026.

Neither Arijit Singh nor the makers of Awarapan 2 have reacted to these reports so far. Fans will now have to wait for the release of Yeh Awarapan to find out if the singer has truly returned to playback singing.
