Travel options in Indian Railways

Every day thousands of people travel through Indian Railways. Many people like to travel by train, and sometimes it becomes necessary to travel in an emergency.

When all the seats on general reservation are filled, passengers have only two options: Tatkal ticket and current ticket. However, many people do not understand the difference between these two and get confused. Come, in this article we will tell you when and how to book these tickets.

Booking Timings and Process

Tatkal tickets are booked one day before the date of journey. Booking for AC classes starts at 10 am and for non-AC classes at 11 am. In contrast, current tickets are available a few hours before the train’s departure. When the first reservation chart of the train is prepared, the remaining seats are sold as current tickets.

Ticket price and additional fees

While booking a Tatkal ticket, apart from the normal fare, an additional fee of Rs 100 to 500 has to be paid, which makes this ticket expensive. On the other hand, there is no extra charge for the current ticket. Sometimes, after the train leaves, you can get a discount of 10 to 20 percent from the normal fare on the current ticket.

Seat Confirmation and Waiting Rules

Along with Tatkal ticket, you can also get confirmed seat and waiting ticket. The seat is confirmed only when the chart is prepared. But this does not happen in current tickets; This is available only when there is a vacant berth in the train. The current ticket is always 100% confirmed, and there is no provision for issuing waiting tickets.

Cancellation and Refund Rules

If you cancel a confirmed or Tatkal ticket, you will not get any refund as per Railway rules. On the other hand, if the current ticket is canceled before the departure of the train, the remaining amount can be refunded to your bank account after deducting clerical charges as per normal cancellation rules.
