The final investigation report of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad is awaited. Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol told the Rajya Sabha that the AAIB investigation is ongoing and the final report will be published only after its completion. 260 people lost their lives in the accident.
New Delhi [भारत]July 20 (ANI): More than a year after the tragic crash of Air India flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol has confirmed that a preliminary report was published by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on July 12, but the final investigation report is awaited as the investigation is still ongoing.
Responding to a question from CPI(M) MP John Brittas, Mohol told the Rajya Sabha that the final inquiry report will be published after the investigation is completed. Mohol said, "A preliminary investigation report was published by the AAIB on 12 July 2025. The investigation is in progress. All possible causes of the accident are being investigated. In accordance with the requirements of ICAO Annex 13, an interim statement has been published by the AAIB on 12 June 2026. The final investigation report will be published after the investigation is completed. The AAIB is conducting its investigation in a transparent manner and the investigation is not yet complete."
MP raised questions on investigation
The response came after a pointed questioning by Britas, in which it had asked the Civil Aviation Ministry to explain the status of the investigation into the Ahmedabad plane crash. He also asked whether the final investigation report had been delayed beyond the indicative deadline of one year under ICAO standards.
Additionally, Brittas asked whether the government had received complaints regarding the "selective disclosure" of cockpit voice recorder (CVR) excerpts in the initial report, which some alleged fueled speculation about the pilot's conduct. He also asked whether the families of the victims and pilot unions have made any representations alleging lack of transparency or lapses in methodology in the ongoing investigation.
260 people died in the accident last year
Air India flight AI-171 crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12 last year, killing 260 people, including 229 passengers, 12 crew members and 19 people on the ground. (ANI)
