Politics of sarcasm or pressure on Yogi? What is the agenda of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh?

Lucknow. In Uttar Pradesh politics, former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is once again in the news for his statements. For some time now, he has been continuously giving such statements, which are being considered different from the line of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Sometimes publicly praising Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav, sometimes calling him a ‘descendant of Shri Krishna’ and now having a different opinion from the Chief Minister’s claim on the statement to Hanumangarhi – these incidents have sparked a new discussion in the political circles. In such a situation, the question is arising whether Brij Bhushan is just expressing his opinion or is this a political strategy to put pressure on the BJP leadership?

Opinion kept separate from Yogi’s statement on Hanumangarhi dispute

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said during a program on July 10 that Namaz was offered on the steps of Hanumangarhi temple. Taking aim at the opposition, he said that if the opposition considers itself truly secular then can Hanuman Chalisa be recited in any Jama Masjid? Just seven days after this statement of the Chief Minister, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh took a different stand.

He said that Namaz was never offered in Hanumangarhi and such a claim is not true. He also said that a Muslim had contributed in the construction of the temple and the inscription to him is still present there. After his statement, the discussion intensified in political circles as to why different voices are being heard within BJP.

Have openly praised Akhilesh Yadav

The Hanumangarhi case is not the first. In the last few months, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh was seen many times praising Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. He even described Akhilesh as a “descendant of Shri Krishna” and praised his political behavior on several occasions. The public praise of the biggest face of the opposition by a senior BJP leader is being considered politically important.

Different attitudes were seen many times in two years

Political experts say that in the last two years, many statements of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh have been different from the official political line of BJP. From time to time he openly expressed his opinion on organization, ticket distribution, local politics and many other issues. His statements many times also gave the opposition an opportunity to attack the BJP.

Yogi and Brijbhushan’s old relationship

Both Brijbhushan Sharan Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have connections to Gorakshpeeth. Both were disciples of Mahant Avaidyanath. An old incident is still discussed in political circles that when the then MP Yogi Adityanath became emotional during his speech in the Lok Sabha, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, sitting next to him, gave him his handkerchief. Despite the old personal relations between the two leaders, differences in public statements are becoming a topic of discussion today.

Have left BJP, have also traveled for SP

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s political journey has been full of many ups and downs. After separating from BJP in 2008, he joined Samajwadi Party and won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections on SP ticket. The interesting thing is that during the Ram Mandir movement, the then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s government had arrested him, but later the same Samajwadi Party became a political base for him.

What is the strategy of ‘pressure politics’?

Political analysts believe that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is counted among those leaders of the state, whose influence is not limited to just one district. He is considered to have influence on about 20 assembly seats in Gonda, Bahraich, Balrampur, Basti and surrounding areas, while he has a support base in many other seats of Purvanchal also. For this reason, every statement of his is seen as a political message.

Some analysts believe that praising Akhilesh Yadav and making statements different from BJP’s line could also be a strategy to create political pressure, so that the message is sent that political options are not completely closed for him. However, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh himself has not made any such claim.

It will not be easy for BJP to ignore

BJP has long maintained its political line against nepotism, but many members of Brijbhushan Sharan Singh’s family have also received election responsibilities from time to time. Political experts believe that considering his regional influence and support base, even BJP is not in a position to ignore him completely.
