Calcutta High Court orders immediate arrest and e-device seize of cricket alleged in rape case

The recent rape case allegations have drowned Abhishek Porel deeper, as he will end up behind bars very soon. On Monday, the Calcutta High Court mandated an immediate arrest and seizure of any electrical devices of the Bengal cricketer on the basis of a medical student's complaint filed citing rape, criminal intimidation, and other serious offenses.

 

And as per previous words, the court also ordered to seize all his gadgets and electronic devices in order to protect the lady's privacy. Justice Saugata Bhattacharya issued the arrest warrant. Despite Porel denying all allegations, police is reportedly looking for him.

 

What are the allegations against Abhishek Porel?

 

Almost a month ago, it was reported that a Karnataka medical student flew all her way to Hoogly in West Bengal with her mother to write a complaint against Abhishek Porel. The victim claimed that she had a relationship of three years with him. And he had a physical relationship with her, including sexual intercourse, promising to marry her.

 

However, Porel started "distancing" from her. She accused him of assault and criminal intimidation, including threats of leaking private photos and videos.

 

Earlier, the Calcutta High Court said,

 

"The petitioner submits that although a criminal prosecution has been initiated, being Mogra Police Station Case No. 346 of 2026 under Sections 64(1), 66, 69, 74, 75(2), 79, 115(2), 117(2), 124, 127(2), 109(1), 308(2), 351(2), 351(3), 316(2), 318(3), 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, read with Sections 66E and 72 of the Information Technology Act, against Respondent Nos. 6 and 7, further investigative steps are required."

Porel denied allegations

 

The complaint alleges that the woman and Ishan Porel were in a relationship for nearly three years. According to her statement, the two were involved in a physical relationship, and she has accused the cricketer of abandoning her despite allegedly promising to marry her.

 

Following the filing of the complaint, the police confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into the matter.

 

"We have received a complaint and started an investigation," a police official told PTI.

 

Porel has denied the allegations and said he would respond in detail only after the investigation progresses.

 

"I am playing well now, so various things are coming up," Porel was quoted as saying by PTI.
