Rohit Sharma has openly expressed his opinion on the speculations of retirement. The veteran opener of the Indian team, after playing an aggressive innings of 138 runs in the Lord’s ODI against England on Sunday (July 19), said that he does not care what kind of noise is outside. In fact, it was claimed in media reports that Lord’s ODI could be Rohit’s last international match.

Rohit’s form was also being discussed continuously. He had batted brilliantly in the first two matches of the series, due to which it was said that now the time for his retirement has come. Rohit had scored 11 runs in 21 balls in the first ODI, whereas in the second match he could only score 26 runs in 47 balls. After this, the debate about his retirement started gaining momentum but Rohit has proved by scoring a century at Lord’s that he still has a lot of cricket left in him.

I have been hearing noise since my debut – Rohit

39-year-old Rohit wants to play in next year’s ODI World Cup but reports are saying that the team management has told him that he is not part of the plans. Rohit said that he has been hearing such things since his debut. In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he said, ‘Ever since I made my debut, this noise has always been there and it will continue as long as I am here.’

The former Indian captain said that he does not care about all these things and his focus is only on his performance. Rohit said, ‘All these things do not make much difference to me. The most important thing for me is what I do on the field and how much I contribute to the team’s success. Right now my entire focus is only on him.

‘If there is no noise then there will be no fun’

Responding to the criticism in his own style, Rohit said that discussions and debates are a part of cricket and his job is to respond with the bat. He said, ‘Let there be noise. If there is no noise then there will be no fun. My work is inside the field, what is being said outside is the work of others. That’s the way I look at it.

Rohit played this innings when Team India was chasing the difficult target of 388 runs. He became the first batsman to score a century at Lord’s. Thanks to his century, India was in the match but as soon as his wicket fell, both the match and the series were lost.
