President Murmu reached Moldova, Deputy Prime Minister Popsoy gave a grand welcome!

President Draupadi Murmu arrived in Chisinau on Monday, the first stop of her tour to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania. This was the first visit by an Indian President to Moldova. Mihai Popsoy, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Moldova, warmly welcomed him at Chisinau International Airport.

President Murmu paid an official visit to Moldova at the invitation of President Maia Sendu. This is the first visit of an Indian President to Moldova.

During her visit, President Murmu will hold talks with President Sandu. She will meet the President of the Moldovan Parliament Igor Grosu. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, she will also interact with members of the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group. In addition, she will address a business forum and members of the Indian community.

“India and Moldova enjoy good and friendly relations. This visit will prove to be an important and historic milestone and will take the relations between the two countries to a greater partnership. There is good scope for mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of agriculture, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, IT and education,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

Speaking at a special briefing on President Murmu’s visit to Moldova on July 17, Sibi George, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, said that the visit to Moldova will provide an opportunity to review the relations between the two countries and talk about ways to enhance cooperation. He said President Murmu’s visit will be helpful in promoting stronger business-to-business linkages and trade and investment relations.

Sibi George said, “The visit provides an opportunity to review the entire gamut of relations between the two countries and discuss ways to enhance cooperation and take the relationship beyond political goodwill to a greater partnership in areas such as trade and investment, digital technology, innovation, renewable energy, healthcare, education, farming, culture, connectivity.”

The Moldova leg is the first stop on President Murmu’s three-nation tour, after which she will travel to North Macedonia and Romania for high-level meetings.
