Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the automobile sector, is further strengthening its grip in the electric vehicle space. The company has announced an additional investment of around Rs 1,000 crore in Bangalore-based Ather Energy, an e-scooter manufacturer. The all-cash transaction will be completed within the next 15 days subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. Hero MotoCorp currently holds 29.48 percent shares of Ather Energy. Besides, Hero’s Vida electric scooters also use Ather’s Ather Grid fast-charging network.

This is considered a big boost for Ather Energy. The company has recently developed its new Ather EL platform, which will underpin a variety of new models like family scooters, maxi-scooters and high-performance scooters.
Cheapest to be launched on 29th August ‘Ather EL01‘
Ather Energy’s first budget-friendly and mass-market electric scooter Ather EL01 will be launched on August 29 at the annual Community Day in Bangalore. Ravneet Singh Phokela, Ather’s Chief Business Officer, clarified that while the EL01 will not be priced below Rs 1 lakh, it will be significantly cheaper than the company’s existing Rizta and 450 series. Currently, Ather’s cheapest scooter Rizta S is priced at Rs 1.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Bangalore).

‘Ather EL01‘ Special features of
Arthur filed a patent for this scooter in December 2025. The following features of this scooter have been revealed from it:
- Tires and Design: It will get 14-inch front and 12-inch rear alloy wheels. It will also get larger LED DRLs and an LED tail-lamp cluster.
- Engine: It will feature a swingarm-mounted electric motor.
- Advance Breaking: This will be Ather’s first scooter to feature an advanced electronic braking system.
- Technology: The scooter will get an instrument console with a 7-inch TFT display, Atherstack 7.0 software and standard voice commands.
- Battery: It is likely to get battery options of 2.9 and 3.7, which can offer a range of 123 km and 159 km respectively. It will also offer an onboard charger (other charge drive controller) for the convenience of customers.
Ather Energy currently ranks third in the Indian e-two-wheeler market after Ola, TVS and Bajaj. Now, this new affordable model is expected to boost Ather’s sales even more.
