At just 19 years old, Lamine Yamal continues to build a remarkable résumé after helping Spain win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding another major achievement to an already impressive early career.

Yamal has enjoyed a rapid rise in world football. He was part of Spain's successful UEFA European Championship campaign at the age of 16 and was recognised as one of the tournament's standout performers. Since then, he has continued to establish himself as one of the game's brightest young talents.

The Barcelona winger followed that international success by helping FC Barcelona secure a domestic treble and becoming the youngest player ever nominated for the Ballon d'Or. A year later, he finished runner-up in the Ballon d'Or voting and came close to reaching the UEFA Champions League final.

His latest accomplishment came on the global stage as Spain lifted the World Cup trophy. While Yamal played an important role throughout the tournament, the Young Player Award went to fellow Spain and Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsi, whose performances during the competition earned widespread recognition.

The World Cup triumph has further strengthened Yamal's position among the leading contenders for this year's Ballon d'Or. Argentina captain Lionel Messi remains a strong candidate after another outstanding tournament, while England captain Harry Kane is also among the players expected to be in contention when the award is presented in October.

Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart praised Yamal's display in the World Cup final and highlighted the teenager's composure under pressure.

"Not only did Lamine Yamal not react. He stood up to it. He was not rattled, and he did not back down. He had the entire Argentinian team trying to smash him," Hart said.

"He just stayed real cool. It was a real standout performance from him."

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente also commended the youngster's contribution during the tournament.

"He has played great football that will help him to mature and be an even greater footballer than he already is," De la Fuente said.

"He really sacrificed for the collective good. This is very important in my squad. In my opinion, he played a great World Cup."

Following Spain's World Cup celebrations, Yamal will return to club duties with Barcelona as preparations begin for the new season. The Spanish champions are scheduled to play pre-season friendlies against CE Europa, Birmingham, Nottingham Forest, and Udinese Calcio before the La Liga campaign begins on August 24.

With a World Cup title now added to his growing list of achievements, Yamal heads into the new season as one of football's most influential young players and a prominent contender for future individual honours.
