The demand for SUVs in India has been on the rise. Almost every brand is now focusing on SUVs. While most of them are front-wheel-drive crossovers, there are still a decent number of brands that offer proper 4×4 SUVs to customers. They are not volume sellers in most cases, but brands continue to offer them as an option. Here is a list of seven such 4×4 or AWD SUVs that are expected to launch in the market soon.

The new-generation Hilux was recently spotted on Indian roads, and the official launch of the pickup truck is expected to take place in July this year. The Hilux has always been a popular choice among off-road enthusiasts across the globe.

The next-generation Hilux will be based on the updated IMV platform and will continue to use the same 2.8-litre diesel engine. Just like the current version, the upcoming Hilux will come with a proper 4×4 system with a low-range transfer case. Like the current-generation model, the Hilux will remain an extremely capable off-roader and is expected to be priced close to the existing version.

Tata launched the Sierra EV recently, and we already know that an electric version of the Safari is also on the way. According to reports, Tata will launch the Safari EV around the festive season this year.

The exterior design of the Safari EV is expected to remain similar to the ICE version but with EV-specific changes such as a revised front end with a closed grille, aerodynamic wheels, updated LED tail lamps, and more.

It will become Tata’s first three-row electric SUV and the flagship model in the brand’s EV portfolio. It is also expected to retain premium features such as leatherette upholstery, memory seats, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and more. Tata may also introduce a triple-display setup similar to the one showcased in the Sierra EV.

The SUV is expected to be offered with 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery pack options. The larger battery pack, as seen in the Harrier EV, offers a claimed range of around 622–627 km, while the smaller battery delivers around 538 km. Higher variants are also expected to come with a dual-motor AWD setup.

Tata will be entering the premium or luxury EV segment with the Avinya range of electric vehicles. The first model, currently known as the Avinya X, is expected to be a crossover. It was initially rumoured that the Avinya would use Jaguar Land Rover’s EMA platform, but the latest reports suggest that it will instead use the Freelander platform developed jointly by JLR and Chinese automaker Chery. The Avinya EV will be sold through a separate retail network.

The SUV is expected to be available in 5-, 6-, and 7-seater configurations. It is likely to measure close to five metres in length and will come equipped with advanced features. While the exact power figures and battery pack options are not yet known, it is also expected to be offered with a dual-motor AWD system.

The Jetour T2 is likely to be one of the first products launched by JSW in India. The SUV is currently undergoing testing in several parts of the country.

It is a premium, boxy SUV whose design draws inspiration from vehicles such as the Land Rover Defender. The Jetour T2 will be introduced as a plug-in hybrid powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a large battery pack. The plug-in hybrid system is expected to offer an all-electric driving range of around 100 km.

The SUV is expected to come with an intelligent AWD system. It will be sold as a CKD model, while JSW is setting up a manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

The Mahindra Scorpio-N is an extremely popular, rugged-looking SUV. The brand has been working on a facelift for this model, and test mules have been spotted several times.

As part of the facelift, the SUV is expected to receive minor cosmetic updates on the outside, including a new set of alloy wheels, redesigned bumpers and grille, and possibly updated headlamps. The SUV is also expected to get a larger Roxx-like touchscreen on the inside, and we may see Level 2 ADAS being offered in more variants.

It will continue to be offered with the same 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options, paired with both manual and automatic transmissions. Just like the current version, the upcoming facelift will also offer a 4×4 system on select diesel variants.

Another SUV that Mahindra is currently working on is the Vision S, a sub-4-metre SUV. It is based on Mahindra’s new NU-IQ platform, which means we are likely to see EV and hybrid versions of the same SUV in the future.

The boxy-looking SUV has been spotted testing multiple times, and it appears that Mahindra is planning to retain the concept’s design for the production version. It is expected to be offered with turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, along with a decent list of features including a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, automatic climate control, Level 2 ADAS, and more. Along with these features, Mahindra might also offer AWD on the higher variants.

The next-generation Fortuner is one of the most highly anticipated models from Toyota. It is one of the most popular SUVs in its segment. The new Fortuner is expected to debut around the festive season this year or in early 2027. It will be based on the updated IMV ladder-frame platform.

The SUV is expected to get a sharper front fascia featuring redesigned LED headlamps, a new grille, and a revised bumper, while the cabin is likely to receive a more premium layout with several new features. The vehicle is expected to continue with 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel mild-hybrid engine options. The diesel variants will continue to offer a 4×4 system with the automatic transmission.
