Mumbai: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured multiple engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) orders from leading domestic metals and mining companies, with the combined value of the contracts falling under its ‘mega’ order category of Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore, the company said in a regulatory filing on Monday. The fresh wins strengthen L&T’s position in the metals and minerals sector and reinforce its leadership in executing large-scale industrial infrastructure projects.

The orders span iron ore handling, steel plant expansion and zinc processing projects, reflecting continued investment by both public and private sector companies in expanding India’s metals and mining capacity.

Major iron ore handling project in Chhattisgarh

One of the key contracts has been awarded by a public sector company that is India’s largest iron ore producer. The project forms part of its expansion programme to increase iron ore production capacity to 100 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2030.

L&T will execute Package BE-01C for an 18 MTPA Iron Ore Handling Plant in Chhattisgarh. The scope includes design and engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of a downhill conveyor system, screening plant, stockpile, yard equipment, Rapid Wagon Loading System (RWLS) and associated auxiliary facilities.

Steel plant expansion in West Bengal

The company has also secured a contract from another public sector Navratna enterprise for the expansion of a steel plant in West Bengal.

The project will increase the plant’s production capacity from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA. L&T will execute multiple design-and-build and balance-of-plant packages as part of the expansion, further strengthening its presence in India’s steel manufacturing sector.

Zinc processing plant order

In addition to the public sector contracts, L&T has won an EPC order for a zinc processing plant from a leading private sector metals producer.

The company said the project involves design and engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning and associated site services, highlighting its expertise in delivering complex non-ferrous metallurgical projects.

Strengthening leadership in EPC

L&T said the latest orders reinforce the capabilities of its Metals & Minerals business vertical in delivering world-class EPC solutions across the mining, ferrous and non-ferrous metals value chain.

The company has extensive experience in executing large industrial projects across India and overseas, covering mining infrastructure, mineral processing facilities, steel plants and other heavy engineering projects.

Positive outlook for the sector

The fresh order wins come as India’s metals and mining industry continues to expand capacity to meet growing domestic demand and support infrastructure development.

With investments increasing across iron ore, steel and non-ferrous metals, engineering companies such as L&T are expected to benefit from sustained demand for large EPC projects over the coming years. The latest contracts further strengthen the company’s order book and underline confidence in its engineering and project execution capabilities.
