A man suspected of stealing a luxury car in California resorted to a highly unusual and destructive method to make away with a Porsche 911 last week.

According to reports, police officers responded to an attempted vehicle theft in North Hollywood at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, as reported by NBC 4 Los Angeles. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Porsche 911 attached to the rear of a black pickup truck. The Porsche in question appeared to be a 992.1-generation Turbo or Turbo S Cabriolet that had received some modifications from Techart, while the pickup towing it was identified as a Ram TRX.

When police instructed the driver to halt, the suspect instead accelerated, dragging the Porsche through city streets. During the chase, the 911 repeatedly struck curbs, scraped against the road surface, and sustained severe body damage. The situation escalated when the Porsche eventually detached from the pickup truck and slid uncontrollably before coming to rest in front of a nearby car wash.

Shortly afterward, law enforcement officers managed to apprehend the suspect and took the driver of the pickup into custody. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in this unusual incident. Authorities confirmed that the suspect, whose name has not been released, has been charged with felony evading.

For Porsche enthusiasts, the footage of the incident is particularly distressing. The extensive damage and careless handling of one of the most iconic sports cars in the world are heartbreaking to witness. Although the vehicle was eventually recovered, the cost of repairs is expected to reach tens of thousands of dollars.

It remains uncertain whether this Porsche 911 will ever be restored to roadworthy condition. Depending on the extent of the hidden mechanical and chassis damage, insurance assessors might decide that repairing the car is not financially viable.
