He explained: “It’s a mindset. I think what we saw was a slight shock value for the team.

“Oh, s***, we’re 1-0 up against Argentina, and then there was this immediate temptation to fall into defence.


“I don’t think it was a tactic, I don’t think that was the plan, it just happened. You can’t, for however long it was, try to defend a 1-0 lead against a team like that. You just can’t.

“So I think the mindset is the belief. If you are 1-0 up, believe that could be 2-0 up.”

The comments stood out because they shifted the discussion away from tactical diagrams and focused instead on confidence. Prince Harry argued that England's players appeared surprised by their own advantage and instinctively protected it rather than trying to extend it. That view mirrors what several former players have suggested in the days since the defeat, even if opinions remain divided over how much responsibility belongs to Tuchel.

Corden clearly liked the analysis. The television host joked that Prince Harry deserved a place in England's future coaching setup, imagining a management team led by former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand once Tuchel's contract expires after Euro 2028.

The playful suggestion came after Ferdinand himself expressed admiration for Prince Harry's football perspective and invited him to appear on his podcast, believing they shared similar views on the game.
