Tata Motors' much-awaited Avinya EV has been spotted undergoing road tests in India for the first time, marking an important milestone in the journey of the company's premium electric vehicle. First introduced as a concept in 2022, the Avinya has remained in the spotlight ever since. The latest spy shots suggest that the production version is now moving closer to reality, with its India launch expected in 2027.

Production Model Takes Shape

According to reports, the test vehicle was heavily camouflaged, hiding most of its design details. Even so, its overall proportions indicate that the production-spec Avinya will retain much of the futuristic styling seen on the Avinya X concept.

The SUV appears to feature:

  • A long wheelbase
  • A sleek, coupe-inspired roofline
  • Premium proportions
  • A modern, aerodynamic silhouette

While some of the bold concept design elements are likely to be toned down for mass production, the Avinya is still expected to offer a more premium appearance than Tata Motors' current electric vehicle lineup.

New Platform for Tata's Premium EV

The Avinya is expected to play a key role in Tata Motors' next-generation EV strategy.

Earlier plans suggested the SUV would be based on Jaguar Land Rover's EMA platform, but recent reports indicate that the production model could instead use the Freelander platform, developed through the Chery–JLR collaboration.

Tata Motors is expected to adapt the platform with software and electronic systems tailored for Indian conditions and customer requirements.

The vehicle is also expected to be manufactured at Tata's upcoming production facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu.

Expected Battery and Driving Range

Although Tata Motors has not officially revealed the technical specifications, reports suggest the Avinya could be equipped with a battery pack ranging between 75 kWh and 95 kWh.

If these expectations hold true, the premium electric SUV may offer:

  • Estimated driving range of 600–700 km on a full charge
  • Higher variants with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup
  • Improved performance and long-distance touring capability

The final specifications will be announced closer to the vehicle's launch.

What to Expect

The Tata Avinya is expected to compete in the premium electric SUV segment with its futuristic design, advanced technology, and long driving range. As Tata Motors expands its EV portfolio, the Avinya is likely to become one of the brand's flagship electric vehicles when it arrives in 2027.
