National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is working on a new technology through which payments can be made through UPI even without an internet connection. Under this new facility, users will be able to make payments up to ₹ 2,000 just by tapping the phone. This feature is considered an extension of the UPI Lite X service and is aimed at making digital payments easier even in areas where internet access is weak or unavailable.
According to the information, this offline payment technology NFC (Near Field Communication) Will be based. This means that it will not be necessary for the internet to be active on the devices of both the customer and the shopkeeper. At the time of payment, both the devices will have to be brought close to each other and tapped and the transaction will be completed. Later when the device is connected to the internet, the transaction record will be synced to the UPI system. NPCI supports this facility UPI Lite X Is being developed as the next phase of. UPI Lite is already used to make small payments faster and easier. Now adding the offline tap-to-pay feature will make small payments even easier. Especially in rural areas, hilly areas, metro stations, basements, during travel or in places with weak network, it will be of great benefit.
Special attention will also be given to security in this new system. The limit for offline transactions will be kept at ₹2,000, so that the risk remains low. Also, transaction data will be stored securely in the device and will be synchronized with NPCI servers when internet is available. With this, along with keeping the payment secure, the records will also be updated. Experts believe that this technology will prove beneficial for both small traders and customers. Many times, due to network problems, UPI payment gets stuck at shops or customers have to pay in cash. After the introduction of the new facility, digital payments will be made easily in such cases also. This will further reduce dependence on cash and will further strengthen the digital economy.
UPI in India has already become one of the largest digital payment platforms in the world. Every month, crores of people make bill payments, purchases, money transfers and other financial transactions through UPI. NPCI is continuously adding new features to make the payment system faster, secure and accessible to all. Currently, NPCI is working on this offline tap-to-pay technology and is preparing to implement it in a phased manner. However, its official launch date has not been announced yet. After successful testing of the technology, it will be made available to the common people through banks and UPI apps. After its implementation, UPI payment up to ₹ 2,000 can be made in a few seconds even in the absence of internet, which is expected to give a new impetus to India’s digital payment system.
