Actor Shaheb Bhattacherjee appeared before the Alipore Court on Tuesday as a witness in the ongoing trial related to the 2017 road accident that claimed the life of actress and model Sonika Chauhan .
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Shaheb said Sonika's parents have spent the last nine years fighting an unending battle for justice. "Their lives were completely shattered after what happened in 2017. Even today, Sonika's mother does not let the flowers on her daughter's grave dry up. She replaces them every day, hoping that one day they will get justice. They deserve a final resolution so they can find some peace," he said.
The actor also questioned the pace of the investigation over the years. "What surprises me is that for so many years, the case moved at an extremely slow pace. But over the last three or four months, the hearings and the investigation have suddenly gained momentum. It feels like quite a coincidence that this happened after the change in government," he remarked.
Shaheb added that justice would not only bring closure to Sonika's parents but also to everyone who loved her. "When Sonika's final journey took place in 2017, thousands of people came to pay their respects. It is not just me, everyone who loved her will finally find peace when justice is delivered," he said.
